What you should know about Urgent Care
If you have a minor injury or disease, then urgent care centers are the ones you can go to. An acute injury is the injury where you need medical attention immediately but it does not warrant you a trip to the hospital emergency room. The staff of urgent care centers like the Med Now are composed of nurses, nurse practitioners, therapists, physician assistants, HR employees, and other qualified health care professionals. Most urgent care centers are owned independently but some are still affiliated with hospitals. Urgent care centers are not the same stuff as primary care centers. Doctors usually operate primary care centers and are only available during working hours but if the emergency happens during the night urgent care centers come to the rescue.
Urgent care centers treat a wide range of medical conditions. These include high fever, accidents or falls, breathing difficulties, back problems, mild to moderate asthma, and sprains.
One biggest advantage in these facilities is that they attend walk-ins so you do not need to have prior appointments with them. The principle of these centers is that health conditions are not predicted. The working hours in centers like these are not too strict since they are open from morning until late at night.
Some equipment found in hospitals like X-ray machines and various specific laboratories help with the diagnosis so that the proper medical treatment can be administered. The expenses are not too costly since they only specialize in acute conditions. As mentioned earlier, the staff is composed of health care professionals so these medical conditions can be taken care of immediately. Hence, you should not worry to experience poor quality sevice.
However, one disadvantage of this is that you cannot bring the patients with very life-threatening conditions in urgent care centers. Conditions like unconsciousness, chest pain, severe bleeding, and food poisoning are just some of the examples. These conditons should be sent immediately to ERs.
Unless you visit the urgent care center regularly, this center may not have medical records. If you have specific medications, then don’t forget to inform the staff. Make sure that you have your own set of personal medical records whenever you visit these centers.
Urgent care centers are certainly numerous in one area. As such, you are responsible to check which of these centers are excellent at administering proper medical treatment. You also need to do some background research regarding the staff or personnel of each center in case you have a specific person in mind. But you can be assured that each center is very well equipped to administer your needs.
